Boys stateThe Ohio American Legion presents for the participation of the young men in the 2011-2012 Junior class, the 2012 session of AMERICAN LEGION BUCKEYE BOYS STATE the premier Boys State program in the nation. Buckeye Boys State is a "Hands On" workshop in the principles and organization of Ohio government. Young men attending Boys State learn about Ohio government by operating the agencies and levels of a mythical state government; the "51st State" themselves and is the largest Boys State program in the nation with over 1,200 of the top juniors in Ohio attending. 85%-90% of all high schools in Ohio currently send representatives to Buckeye Boys State. Home schooled students are also welcome. The 2012 American Legion Buckeye Boys State will be held June 10-17, 2012 on the campus of Bowling Green State University. Through Buckeye Boys State, young men will know more about Ohio government than 75% of the general population of the state, which will benefit them in Problems of Democracy, Political Science, and AP Government classes their senior year. Girls StateChrist Dunberger American Legion #537 Auxiliary will again be sponsoring young ladies to be delegates for this years Buckeye Girls State. It offers exceptionally fine leadership and learning experience in government and Americanism. The applicants will be selected from Clay High School, Cardinal Stritch High School, and Waite High School. The Buckeye Girls State will be held at the University of Mount Vernon June 10-16, 2012. Delegates must plan to attend the full 7 days. It will not be permissible to leave the program to attend sports camps, family activities, or other events. |
