“To create one's own world in any of the Arts takes courage.” Art Foundations –Students have been busy working in altered books using a mixed-media format. Some students have created ceramic tile designs that accompany their Altered Books. Many students are starting to work with the idea of moveable paper designs for a pop-up page in the Altered Book, as well. Students have also completed a “Gnome door” while perfecting basic clay hand-building skills. These tiny doors will be kiln-fired and then painted with acrylic paint. Students may later photograph their “gnome door” and create a spread in their altered book to tell a visual story about their door. Drawing & Painting –Students have finished a celebrity black and white painting. They are incorporating technology into their creative process to aid in their art-making. Students are beginning a distorted self-portrait using acrylic paint applications. Ceramics and Sculpture –Students have finished their Bas-Relief Tile designs. They are currently working on Paper Sculpture; creating Hanging Geometric Star Lanterns, Origami Box designs, and Foldable Sculpture. Print-making and Mixed-media –Students have completed their altered object sculpture project. Transforming an old, discarded shoe into fantasy creatures, landscape scenes, and tropical plants has proven challenging but rewarding. Using an array of assemblage techniques the students altered 80% of the original shoe to create their free-standing sculpture. Currently, students are “elbow deep” into a clay unit. Students will hand-build an abstract sculpture derived from an organic form. These free-standing sculptures will be bisque-fired and students will apply a glaze finish to their piece. |
