Art Department Update - October 2011

Art Foundations – Students are working on learning the techniques involved in creating the basic forms of cones, cubes, cylinders, and spheres.

This skill will become invaluable as they begin still-life drawing. Sketchbook assignments continue to be an important part of the beginning artists’ skill acquisition. Be sure to ask your young artist for a peek at these magnificent representations of their art experiences. Some students are beginning to work with the elements of form and texture using clay as the media component.

Print-Making & Mixed-Media – Students are experimenting with monotypes. They are discovering the many tools and techniques available to create the values and textures they desire in this painterly style of print-making. Sketchbook assignments have further developed our understanding of the history, vocabulary and artists of monotypes.

Drawing & Painting  - students are studying the element of LINE. Blind contour drawings emphasizing dynamic line quality have the students working hard to capture the essence of their subject matter.

Ceramics & Sculpture - students are working on human proportion creating plaster posing people! Coming soon to a display case near you...
