Parents of Sophomores: You will receive letters in October regarding the PLAN TEST or the pre-ACT to be offered in November. The PLAN is recommended for students intending to apply to college because it provides experience and information on how to improve scores.
Parents of Juniors: Please encourage your daughters/sons to attend the Clay College Day. College Day will be held Wednesday, October 5th from 12:00-1:00 in the gym.
Juniors may take the ACT college entrance exams during the second semester. If interested in ACT test preparation courses contact your student’s counselor. ACT encourages students to apply online at www.actstudent.org.
Parents of Seniors: Most likely, there are many questions about your son or daughter’s plans for next year, especially if they include college. The procedures for reading the application to college, the scholarship search and application, the financial aid application, and final selection of college are all part of an overwhelming list of considerations and tasks. With that in mind, the Guidance Department hopes that the following information will assist you. A list of special guidance events, dates, and times is provided for your future reference. You may want to save this list so that you may attend any or all events as they relate to your needs.

Applying to College
Seniors may apply to their selected colleges and universities at any time. (Please check deadlines for the school of your choice). We ask that the student bring her/his application to their guidance counselor with a check made out to the college for the application fee. If the student applied on-line, he/she needs to notify their counselor. The counselor will send the student’s transcript, the school profile, and other requested information to the college.
College Visitation If your son/daughter has not chosen a college yet, he or she should be planning visitations to college campuses now. This is a good time for parents and their high school seniors to take some weekend trips in order to take a quick yet thorough, look at the college choices. Clay High School allows seniors to take Academic Days, whereby the senior is excused for college visits. The student must complete the teal colored Academic Day Form (obtained in the Guidance Office), which will require verification of the visit on the college stationary. Seniors are granted a maximum of 3 academic days.
NCAA Eligibility Center Any junior or senior athlete planning on participating at the college level at an NCAA Division I or II school should see Mrs. Birr to register with the NCAA eligibility center. If you are a senior, you should see Mrs. Birr as soon as possible.
We would like to welcome our new school counselor, Ms. Beth Kohler, who is replacing Mr. Dippman, who retired at the end of last year.
You are welcome to call any of the counselors to obtain information. Our direct number is 419-697-3434. If you call after school hours, you may leave a voice mail on the following extensions. Best wishes for a great school year!
