Students Who Earn a Failing Grade

In a previously released article entitled Calculating Semester Grades, it was announced that the procedure for calculating semester grades changed.

In order for every student to receive an opportunity to pass the semester, those students receiving an ‘F’ in a class will have the grade percentage manually overwritten to reflect a 66.4%. Manually overwriting the percentage will give every student the best opportunity to pass the semester and earn credit for the class. This caused some confusion when a parent or student logged onto the PowerSchool Portal and a 66.4% was displayed as the percentage that student earned. However, in all actuality, the percentage the student earned in the class may be even lower than what was viewed in the PowerSchool Portal. Please remember that our policy still requires a student to pass two out of the three grading portions to pass the semester. The three portions that compose each semester grade include 1st and 2nd or 3rd and 4th quarter grades, as well as the exam administered during that particular semester. Therefore, if a student fails two out of these three portions, the student will fail the semester and will not earn credit for the class.
