March Highlights:

March "Lunch with the Principal" Participants

Mr. Earl Program Comes to an End

Our Mr. Earl program concluded on March 2.  Students turned in 1,146 mailable postcards.  This fundraising opportunity earned our school $573.00 for just filling out postcards!  Our t-shirt raffle winners were Zoelee Skiver and Allie LaPlante.  Our grand prize raffle winner taking home a mechanical robot was Ethan Barallioux.

Student Council holds first Book Swap

The Student Council at Coy was excited to hold their first used book swap.  Students in all grades were asked to bring in gently used books.  After the collection of the books, students were able to select different books in order to further enhance their home libraries.  We had many books come in and students went home with lots of new and exciting books to read.

Blood Drive a Huge Success at Coy

Coy hosted an America Red Cross Blood Drive on Tuesday, March 20, after school hours.  Our goal was set to collect 26 pints of blood.  Excitedly, we collected 35 pints of blood exceeding our goal!  A special thanks went out to Coy family and friends that stepped forward to participate.

3rd Grade Visits Perrysburg Courthouse

Our third graders visited the Perrysburg Courthouse on March 21st.  Students had a wonderful time exploring the court system and understanding all of the different roles of our government officials.  A great learning time was had by all.

Coy's Spring Craft Show

Coy's PGA sponsored and facilitated our spring craft show on Saturday, March 24.  We had many vendors come out and the event was well attended.  There are plans to continue with the event again next spring.

Coy Carnival

Coy Carnival took place on Friday, March 30 from 5-8 P.M.  The Coy Carnival is a PGA sponsored event.  There were many games, fun activities and food was available for students, parents and staff to enjoy.  Coy volunteers and staff helped to run the games throughout the night.  A good time was had by all!

Easter Food Drive

The Coy Student Council ran an Easter dinner food drive.  Students brought in one can to donate and were allowed to sign a big paper Easter egg on the wall.  The food collected is going to an anonymous Coy family for their Easter dinner.

Arbor Day

Coy Elementary students will do a school-wide silent reading outside the front of our building in the Betty Carstensen circle.  Students will reflect on the meaning of Arbor Day as well as honor Mrs. Carstensen for all of her hard work helping students understand the meaning of Arbor Day.  The event will take place on Friday, April 27 at 2:30.

Ohio Achievement Testing

Ohio Achievement Assessments for third-fifth graders are fast approaching.  This is always an exciting opportunity for our students to show what they have learned over the course of the year.  Testing will occur April 25, May 1 and 3.  As a staff, we are looking forward to testing.  This year we have planned many events leading up to our test dates.  Students in third through fifth grade that are at school on time, every day the week of testing, will have their name entered into a drawing for a special prize.

Ram Drama Update

The Ram Drama team is in full swing with many practices preparing for the upcoming musical, Aladdin.  Musical performances will run from May 18 at 7:00, May 19 at 7:00 and May 20 at 12:00.  Please keep your schedule open to attend one of their outstanding performances!  You may also follow their website as the musical unfolds at http://ramdramateam.com.

Mrs. Molnar’s Report

  • Lunch with principal was held last week. 
  • Hoops for the Heart w/Ms. Rossler starts 13th.  Info will be coming home. 
  • Dr. Seuss week will be 2/27/12-3/2/12.  “Read the Most Coast to Coast” 
  • Mr. Earl Fundraiser packet of post cards will be coming home soon.  Students are encouraged to complete all of the post cards and return.  School receives .50 for every post card with a name and address submitted. 
  • There is an ongoing concern only 200 people receive the Coy Newsletter via email.  Mrs. Molnar is going to start sending home a flyer with important events, links to read about them and all of the important dates to remember.   

 New Business

  • Outside field update and progress - Meeting in March.  During the meeting Feb 6th plans were discussed to add parking along the rear driveway of the school and possibly future parking on access road along the retention pond.  Swings, basketball hoop and a new megaphone were decided upon out of funds voted to use at past PGA meeting.  Next meeting will be March 5th after PGA meeting.
  • Mom's Night In:  February 10th.  Will run 5-9.  We will have about 20 vendors.
  • Carnival:  March 30 – volunteer sign-up was passed around.  Additional face painters and possible art students and high school students as volunteers were discussed.
  • Yearbook orders and messages.  Yearbooks were ordered and the message flyers will go home shortly.
  • Kindergarten Information Night will be 3/28/12.  We still need 2 volunteers to help.  It was suggested we look for a current kindergarten parent who would like to help.  Discussed putting together a small raffle for a backpack filled with school supplies and also some Coy bumper stickers be purchased to pass out.  Mrs. Molnar was going to look into some designs and then later we can sell the remaining bumper stickers to current parents at Carnival and Dad’s Day.
  • Spirit Wear Spring Sale and chairperson.  A new chairperson is needed!
  •  Dad's Day theme - voting in March.  T-shirt design flyer will go home with 5th graders to be voted on at the March 5th PGA meeting.  We are going to confirm and limit the number of colors the students can use on the design.
  • Mother’s Dance Themes were discussed.  Chrissy Finch is looking for 5 different ideas to let the students pick as their theme. 
  • Monthly Drawing
  • Voted to give $50 to Clay High School Operation Graduation again this year.

Kindergarten 2012-13 Parent Information Night 

If you have a child who will be attending kindergarten next year, (5 years old on or before September 30, 2012), please plan on attending a Parent Information Meeting on Wednesday, March 28, 2012 from 7:00-8:00 p.m. at the Wynn Center (formerly Wynn Elementary) 5224 Bayshore Rd.

This session will include information regarding procedures, requirements, and academic expectations for kindergarten.  The Kindergarten registration forms packet will be available and an appointment for registration/screening will be scheduled at this time.  These appointments will occur the week of April 16, 2011, and will also be held at the Wynn Center.

Please share this information with neighbors, relatives, or friends who might have a child 5 years old on or before September 30, 2012.  If you have any questions, please feel free to call Lu Lane at (419) 698-8003.

PowerSchool - Your key to monitoring grades and attendance 

Letters regarding access to PowerSchool were sent out in the mail on Thursday, September 22nd.  This letter provides information as to how you can access an online account which will contain information such as attendance and demographic information for all students, as well as grades for students in grades 2-12.  You are encouraged to set-up your child's online account and monitor your child's grades on a regular basis.  Midterm reports will not be sent out for grades 2 - 12 during the school year due to the ability to access grades online.  You must login to your child's PowerSchool account to view his or her grades leading up to grade cards.  If you have any questions regarding this system or if you did not receive the letter, please feel free to contact Linda Toth at  This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. Please contact the teacher directly if you should have any questions regarding grades. Report cards will be distributed to every student at the end of each quarter.  The dates in which grade cards will go home are listed below:

Lost and Found

Reminder - our lost and found bucket is overflowing with items.  It will be emptied at the end of every quarter and the end of this quarter is fast approaching.  Please check for lost items outside of the office doors immediately!

Kroger Community Program

Enrolling in Kroger Community Rewards is quick and easy.  Visit www.krogercommunityrewards.com to enroll.  The program costs you nothing to join and Coy School benefits from your regular purchases.  Kroger required all participants to re-enroll over the summer.  If you did not re-enroll, please follow the steps listed above.

Receive School Newsletter via e-Mail!

Oregon City Schools will be transitioning all schools to electronic newsletters.  All you need is an e-mail account to subscribe.  Simply visit www.oregoncityschools.org to subscribe to your school newsletter.  Just select the school you want to receive newsletters from, then enter your name and e-mail address. You will receive a confirmation e-mail with a link you must click to confirm.  Once confirmed you will begin receiving monthly newsletters from your school(s).

The newsletters will include important dates, popular website links (e.g. staff directory, lunch menus, calendars), and current school news.  Each newsletter will highlight current school events and accomplishments as well as provide district communications.  This system is integrated with our website making it an efficient process to create the newsletters.  Providing newsletters via e-mail will also cut printing and distribution costs.  Subscribers can unsubscribe at any time by clicking a link on the bottom of their newsletter e-mail.

 Coy Elementary School is conducting a recycling fundraiser. There’s nothing to buy. We are simply asking you to protect the environment by donating your used consumer electronics/inkjet cartridges. Your used item(s) will be recycled in accordance with EPA regulations. 100% of the proceeds will come back to Coy Elementary School.
