OCS Mission & Beliefs

The mission of the Oregon City School Board of Education is to maintain a safe and secure learning environment that provides all students with the opportunity to obtain the knowledge, skills and abilities necessary to be successful in the 21st century.

Core Beliefs

  • FAMILY - Extend respect, value, and caring to all staff and students
  • COMMUNITY - Share a fellowship by honoring the values, interests, and goals of individuals and groups living in our OCS community
  • TRADITION - Continue established district and school based long standing activities
  • RIGOR - Rigorous learning experiences helping students understand knowledge and concepts that are complex, ambiguous, or contentious, and they help students acquire skills that can be applied in a variety of educational, career, and civic contexts throughout their lives.
  • RELEVENCE - Connect learning to real and meaningful applications and careers outside of the school environment
  • RELATIONSHIPS - Connecting with, trusting, valuing, honoring all students and adults
  • SAFETY AND SECURITY - Provide a healthly, safe & nurturing environment for all students and staff 

OCS Goals

  • Adopted by BOE on September 17, 2014

  • Goal 1: All OCS Students will graduate prepared for college, career and life.
    • Objective 1: OCS students will be provided a rigorous, real world curriculum.
    • Objective 2: OCS will offer Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, Math (STEAM) programming in grades K-12.
    • Objective 3: OCS will provide access to technology that will enhance, enrich and reinforce student learning.
  • Goal 2: All OCS Students will have the opportunity for a comprehensive school experience
    • Objective 1: OCS athletic department will foster an environment of athletic development, competition, and leadership with all of its student athletes.
    • Objective 2: OCS will provide all students career education experiences in grades K-12.
    • Objective 3: OCS will provide co-curricular and extracurricular programs.
  • Goal 3: OCS will prepare, develop and support effective educators and employees
    • Objective 1: OCS will provide staff with high quality, researched based, professional development opportunities by accessing local, state, and national experts and organizations.
    • Objective 2: OCS expects a consistent, reasonable and professional level of employee behavior.
    • Objective 3: OCS will provide access to technology that meets each staff member needs.
    • Objective 4: OCS will expand the review process for all employees to include feedback from various stakeholders.
    • Objective 5: OCS employees will have a mindset of continuous improvement and life-long learning.
    • Objective 6: OCS will coordinate all human resource practices attracting and retaining highly skilled employees.
  • Goal 4: OCS will promote Tradition, Family, Community, Safety and Respect in the decision-making and the culture of the school district
    • Objective 1: OCS will develop an intentional comprehensive internal and external communication system.
    • Objective 2: OCS will collaborate with community members and stakeholder groups to maximize community engagement.
    • Objective 3: OCS will provide and maintain a safe and secure environment for all students and staff.
  • Goal 5: OCS will utilize our financial resources in a fiscally responsible manner to maximize student success
    • Objective 1: OCS will continue to identify and implement significant operational savings and efficiencies.
    • Objective 2: OCS will collaborate with the Oregon Schools Foundation and establish partnerships with local business to provide private funding for OCS.
    • Objective 3: OCS will ensure financial stability by maintaining a 60-90 day true cash balance in the five year forecast.
