Principal Message February |
|

Dear Parents/Guardians,
This is the time of year where we begin gearing up in preparation for the achievement tests. Our 7th graders will be tested March 5- March 9th. The students will be administered the Stanford 10 and OLSAT 8. Please remind your child that they need to get plenty of rest and eat a good breakfast during testing week. We have also been working very hard with our students to prepare them for the OAA (Ohio Achievement Assessment). This test will be administered April 30-May 2, 2012.
On February 16th, students will attend assemblies present by the American Red Cross about its’ upcoming Blood Drive, Pint Size Hero. The program encourages students to volunteer at the blood drive and invite parents, guardians and other adults to give blood on their behalf. At the assemblies, students will receive information about the program and a Blood Donor Response Card to take home. Please ask your student for this important information! The Blood Drive is March 22, 2012 at Eisenhower.
We changed our Parent Teacher Conference night to Feb. 27th from 5-8 PM. I apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused. Please call 419-836-8498 ext 2403 to schedule an appointment.
Eisenhower will be offering an OAA tutoring program in March. This program will be offered to students who scored below proficient on the OAA. Please look for a letter in the mail and return it promptly to sign your son/daughter up for tutoring.
Sincerely,
Mrs. Bihn |

PROMOTION/RETENTION POLICY- 2012 |
It is very important that all students and parents understand the promotion policy of the Oregon City Schools for the 6th, 7th and 8th grade students. Students must earn at least “D” average or above during the school year in the four core subjects of English, Science, Social Studies and Math in order to successfully complete the subject.
Should a student fail to pass two or more core area classes, the class will need to be made up in summer school or the grade level repeated next school year. Retention consideration is an evaluative process conducted by Eisenhower Middle School teachers, counselors, and school principal. A student must be “Academically Prepared” as determined by the evaluative team to be promoted to the next grade level. The final decision to promote or retain a student must meet the approval of the school principal.

School Delays or Closings- 2012 |
With the beginning of each school year comes the possibility of delaying or canceling school due to inclement weather conditions such as snow, ice or fog. There are many factors to consider, but it remains a difficult decision in the course of a school year. Whatever decision is made, it is not pleasing to everyone, but the safety of the students has been and will continue to be our primary concern on inclement days. There have been times when we have made a decision the evening before, but normally the decision is reached in the early morning hours. Before deciding on a delay or postponement, we drive the roads, listen and watch the weather forecast and consult with personnel who can help assess the conditions. We try to make a decision by 6:00 a.m., but on occasion we are unable to do so until the last moment. However, when we delay or cancel school, we will notify the following radio and TV stations immediately. You can also register your phone or email account through Dynacal at www.oregoncs.org.
