Eisenhower First Annual Geography Bee

Can you name the Asian country at the eastern edge of the South China Sea that includes about 7,100 islands? (Philippines)  How about the location of Timbuktu, a center of caravan trade for almost 1000 years? (Mali)  Erek Hansen, a sixth grader at Eisenhower, answered those questions and many more to become the winner of the first annual Eisenhower Geography Bee.  Erek will complete a written test to qualify for the state Geography Bee in March.  Lucas Kanthak, an eighth grader at Eisenhower, was the runner up, and Kyrsten Nagypaul was the third place winner.  All the students at Eisenhower completed a written test to qualify for the school bee.  The top ten students competed in the Final Competition.  Those students were:  Baleigh Powell, Jack Allred, Kyrsten Nagypaul, Hanna Hess, Allie Reichert, Lucas Kanthak, Adrienne Fisher, and Erek Hansen.  Thanks to all the students for participating, and congratulations to the winner! If you are interested in participating next year, you can go to the Geography Bee website: http://www.nationalgeographic.com/geobee where there is a Daily Quiz, or try geography websites such as http://www.sheppardsoftware.com/Geography.htm   Students, start studying for next year!
