School Assembly- Bullying

Jay Banks Visits Eisenhower
-Quotes selected from student Study Guides

“I liked that he took a serious problem and made it funny and enjoyable”
“I liked his voices, and it was funny but sent a good message”
“he taught us a lot about bullying”

On Wednesday, October 19th students began the day by completing the first half of their study guide for the STAMP Out Bullying program. They defined what they believed bullying was and stated if they had ever been bullied and how. Then students were called down to the auditorium for a presentation by guest speaker Jay Banks.

Mr. Banks has presented at schools across the nation on topics such as bullying, leadership and drug awareness. The focus of his assembly was the STAMP program. Using both real life and humorous examples, he explained each of the steps of the program in a memorable way.

“It was fun and easy to understand”
“I learned new ways to help my bullying problems”

The STAMP Out Bullying program was explained to students in this way,
S = Stay Away from Bullies
T = Tell Someone
A = Avoid Bad Situations
M = Make Friends
P = Project Confidence

After the assembly, during Academic Assist time, students filled out the remainder of their study guides. They were asked to list the steps of the STAMP program, share what they liked about the program and what they learned from the program. The responses from students have been overwhelmingly positive. Almost 90% of students were able to correctly identify the steps of the STAMP program from memory.   The goal is for students to use these steps to help deal with bullying in their lives.

“He did a great job! If we ever have more programs, he should do it”
