Thanksgiving Celebrations
Jerusalem Students celebrated Thanksgiving in many ways! The first graders held their annual Thanksgiving feast, complete with turkey, mashed potatoes, gravy rolls, corn, pumpkin bread, and chocolate suckers. Thanks, parents, for all the fixings and all your help. The students dressed in their handmade costumes of pilgrims and Native Americans. 100 students all in one room…WOW! The kindergarten classes were visited by Mr. Gil Kolorik. He demonstrated various skins of animals found around Jerusalem Township and Oregon. He also showed the children correct ways to touch the skins and feathers, so that they do not cause the skins and feathers to be ruined. Included in his presentation were an actual turkey foot and feathers! Mr. Gil gave each student a turkey feather to keep, which they loved. Of course, the students had lots of questions for Mr. Gil! We are thankful to Mr. Gil for presenting every year as kindergarten classes prepare for Thanksgiving. Mrs. Ensey’s third graders visited the first and second grade classrooms with their reader’s theater rendition of the spelling and meaning of Thanksgiving. The students reinacted The First Thanksgiving: An Alphabet Story. What a great performance!
