The Board of Education of the Oregon City School District met in special session on the 21st day of December, 2009 at 8:00 a.m. at Maumee Bay Resort and Conference Center, 1750 Park Road #2, Oregon, Ohio, with the President calling the meeting to order, leading the Pledge of Allegiance to the flag, and asking for a moment of silence.  The following members answered roll call: Mr. Gabel, Mr. Heintschel, Mrs. Karoly, and Mr. Ziviski.

Work Session:

Board spent time reviewing the self evaluation form as a group.  Items which came out of evaluation were:

1)  Superintendent will make sure a Monthly Good News Media Release goes out after meetings.  This will be sent to press, local officials, city council etc.
2)  Executive Sessions not directly relating to the evenings Agenda items will be held at the end of the regular business meeting.

Board met with the following individuals to begin the process of choosing legal council for purposes of upcoming negotiations and also to explore negotiating processes.

     Matt Markling – Attorney from McGowen, Markling and Whalen Co. LPA
     William Pepples – Attorney from Pepples & Waggoner
     Kevin Moyer – Federal mediator reviewed Interest Based Bargaining Training

Board heard from Rex Jameson regarding the progress on Oregon Strategic Planning process. 

Meeting concluded with Superintendent Zalar passing out the following items for discussion and review:

1)  Leadership Style
2)  Board Committees for 2010
3)  Ohio Sunshine Law
4)  Leadership – Board/Superintendent Relationship
 
Board discussed the need to meet for a ½ day toward the end of January with consultant Jack Marsick to review in more detail how our Board will work together next year.

Mr. Heintschel made a motion, seconded by Mrs. Karoly to adjourn.  Motion carried.  Meeting adjourned at 3:12 p.m.
