ART

The Eisenhower Middle School Art Program is an exploratory class which provides extensive learning experiences in the visual arts for all students.  Our curriculum is guided by and aligned with the Ohio Visual Art State Content Standards for sixth, seventh, and eighth grade.  It promotes a balanced education that includes:  art history, multi-culturalism, aesthetics, studio production, art criticism, and reflection.

CHORUS

Students develop an understanding of basic musical concepts and an appreciation of many musical styles through singing. They perform at concerts and various community functions.

COMPUTER

Students continue to improve keyboarding skills using the Microtype keyboarding program. They learn more advanced word processing techniques in Microsoft Word.  Emphasis is on learning to use formulas in Microsoft Excel and how to use Microsoft Publisher  for desktop publishing projects.

INSTRUMENTAL MUSIC (Band)

Students continue to develop instrumental music skills. Rhythm reading, note recognition, and fundamentals of good tone are further emphasized. Students perform both individually and in large group settings.

HEALTH

Students focus on many mini-lessons at the beginning of the quarter which highlight good decision making. These include issues on shoplifting, bullying, and tolerance. Illegal drugs, alcohol and tobacco and their effects on the body and relationships are also covered. The school resource officer will bring in Vision Goggles and discuss the consequences of under-age drinking.

INDUSTRIAL TECH

Students will be working with linear measurement (1/16’s, 1/8’s, 1/4’s, & 1/2’s). They will be reviewing fractions, reducing, changing improper fractions into whole numbers with proper fractions, and adding fractions. They will research, design, build, and test an Air Powered Vehicle. The vehicle will be powered by compressed air. The 7th graders will end their quarter with career exploration in the computer lab.

LANGUAGE ARTS (Gifted and Talented)

Language Arts Gifted and Talented is offered to all identified gifted and talented students. Students receive intensive instruction in research and in diverse types of writing and forms of literature in a thematic format. Grammar, vocabulary, listening, speaking, and study skills are further developed.

LANGUAGE ARTS

Language Arts further develops reading, writing, listening, speaking, and language skills. Students study composition, spelling, grammar, usage, vocabulary, and adolescent literature. Emphasis is on effective written and oral communication.

LIFE SKILLS

Life Skills focuses on giving students the skills to make good nutritional choices based on the Food Guide Pyramid. These skills include proper safety and sanitation practices and the use of math and science principles while preparing simple recipes in the foods laboratory. Additional areas are explored with the use of technology. A multi-media computer enhanced format focuses on problem solving, communication, time and resource management, social and family relationships, caring for children, goal setting, self-esteem, citizenship and career exploration. Students are also introduced to basic sewing skills and make a simple project using a sewing machine. This class is taken either in the 7th or 8th grade for one semester.

MATHEMATICS (Enriched)

The students will be using whole numbers, decimals, integers, fractions and percents to solve algebraic expressions and equations. They will also be studying statistics, probability and geometry. They will be solving equations and inequalities and graphing them in the coordinate plane. Mental math, estimation and thinking skills will be incorporated.

MATHEMATICS

Students will be reviewing decimal and fraction operations, but will concentrate on algebra (evaluating and solving algebraic expressions and equations), geometry, integer, measurement (both metric and standard), percent, proportion, and ratio units. Estimation and mental math skills will be integreated into all units, and problem solving skills will be emphasized.

PHYSICAL EDUCATION

Students participate in physical fitness activities, team and individual sports with continued emphasis on positive attitude, teamwork, and sportsmanship.

SOCIAL STUDIES

Ohio Academic Content Standards. 1000 B.C. to 1400 A.D.

SCIENCE

The fields of life science, physical science, and earth science are addressed in the seventh grade science curriculum. Students will use a variety of hands-on, small group activities to learn about such topics as structure and diversity of organisms, life processes, weather, climate, biomes, and the nature and transformation of energy.
