Week of October 3rd This week is Count Week. In the state of Ohio, the first full week of October is prominent in determining the amount of money that comes to each school district. The amount each district gets is determined by attendance in the first week of October. It is imperative that we have children in school each and every day in order to maximize their learning opportunities. During count week, having students in school every day maximizes the number of dollars that the district receives to provide those learning opportunities. Please pay special attention to your child’s attendance this week.
Tuesday is the 3rd grade reading achievement test. This test is given to the 3rd graders in October and late April/early May. Please made sure your child gets a good night's sleep, has a good breakfast, and leaves home with a positive attitude! Any student in grade 3 who arrive after 8:45 a.m. will remain in the office until testing has been completed for the day.
Join Oregon police officers, Clay High School athletes and mascots Eddie & Edna, and members of the Pedestrian Safety Task Force for International Walk to School Day on Wednesday, October 5. Week of October 10th At the present time we need volunteers who can donate 30 minutes or more a week helping 1st and 2nd grade students with reading. During the sessions the students orally read and discuss various stories with the volunteer. The students complete basic questions over the story (comprehension) and work on building vocabulary, language skills, writing skills, etc. The program is very beneficial. It not only provides one-on-one instruction for our students but also builds a support system between the community and school. If you are interested in volunteering please call Mrs. Tricia Soltesz at 419-693-0589 ext. 3020 or e-mail her at

When your child has to be outside for 30 minutes, it can get chilly when he or she does not have a coat to wear.
