It is a fact that school violence is disruptive to the health and well-being of students and the related community. Being bullied while at school leads some victims to internalize the pain and suffer from anxiety, depression, and low self-esteem. Other victims externalize their pain and become increasingly violent. These individuals become hostile toward peers and disruptive to the learning environment. Further, the immediate and long-term learning outcomes, in the presence of violence, are compromised due to students being unable to focus fully on curriculum due to continued fear for their safety. Whether the victim is prone to internalization or externalization, the result of living in a violent school and community is not good. Not only does successful violence prevention help the victim, it is designed to also help the perpetrator. Childhood perpetrators of violence become adult perpetrators of violence. We can help eradicate the problem and create a community that fosters peace and lessens the short- and long-term consequences of bullying.
Clay High School is committed to preventing bullying and its related consequences. To that end, we are providing resources for students, parents, and community members to assist us in preventing bullying to our fullest potential. Most importantly, we are providing an Anonymous Report Form, which allows individuals to report bullying incidents. All reports will go directly to School Resource Officer, Tim McLeod of the Oregon Police Division.
