“The current and future health of America’s 21st Century Economy depends directly on how broadly and deeply Americans reach a new level of literacy—‘21st Century Literacy’—that includes strong academic skills, thinking, reasoning, teamwork skills, and proficiency in using technology.” The Oregon City Schools is addressing this challenge head on! To adequately prepare, students must learn content within the context of 21st century skills. Through the use of rigorous academics, real-world activities, applied use of computers and internet resources, teaming and collaboration, community involvement and interactive communication with local businesses the students of Oregon are learning the skills necessary for success in the global economy. All students are currently expected to be computer and internet literate by the time they get to high school. Relying on these foundation skills, students at the high school level have the opportunity to enroll in elective classes that place them in situations requiring self-direction, sound reasoning and decision making. They are expected to be active in civic activities that benefit the Oregon community. Students are expected to prioritize, plan and manage project results. These challenging situations are created in programs that are located on the campus of Clay High School. They are College Prep! They are Tech Prep! They are Career and Technical Education! |
