Fassett MS Principal's Message |
|

Welcome to Fassett Middle School, home of the Vikings! We are committed to challenging our students towards high achievement and positive social interactions while working daily to provide them with the tools needed to do so. We know that as parents, you are your child’s first teachers, and we value your role in your child’s education. We value our role as partners in your child’s educational journey and encourage you to communicate with us regularly as we work towards excellent communication with you.
It is with great enthusiasm that I welcome you to the 2010-2011 school year in which we will celebrate Fassett’s 50th Anniversary. Fassett first opened its doors in 1960 and has been servicing students and families in the community since. Fassett was a 7—9 building from 1960—1988 when it became a Middle School with the 6—8 concept. In commemoration of the 50th Anniversary, there will be a 5K race on October 9th. We will also be hosting a ceremony set for later in the school year. Students will receive weekly “Friday Fassett Fun Facts” to establish their knowledge of the building they learn in and of the community of people that built what we all enjoy.
As the doors opened this school year, we were very fortunate to have many improvements made to our building. Please take a moment to read the article entitled, “New Year Brings New Changes in Building in and around the Building Improves Fassett for Students and Families”. Thank you Oregon voters for approving the Permanent Improvement levy in 2008 that allowed for these much needed up-dates!
I am fortunate to work daily with great students, teachers, and families. I look forward to all the possibilities ahead us in 2010—2011 and know that by working together, we can create an environment in which our students can learn, grow and excel!

Dr. Zalar to Host Community Forum for Fassett Community |
|
On Thursday, September 23, 2010, Dr. Mike Zalar, Superintendent of Oregon City Schools, will host a Community Forum at Fassett Middle School in the Media Center at 6:00. Please plan on attending as Dr. Zalar will share important Oregon City Schools Operating Levy information. He will cover topics related to the November emergency levy such as:
What will happen if the levy passes/does not pass? What will the emergency levy cost me? When would the schools need to go back to the taxpayers? Where are we with district reconfiguration options for K—8? How much money do the schools actually receive from the lottery? and much more...
An informational flier will be coming home in the next week. We sincerely look forward to your participation in this process! |

September Students of the Month |
|
We are fortunate to have hard working and high achieving students at Fassett Middle School. We realize that the successes we have are often the result of our dedication as well as the support of family, friends, past and present teachers, and others in our community.
Each month we will recognize a “Student of the Month” for each grade level. Candidates are chosen on the basis of outstanding citizenship and outstanding academic effort.
Congratulations to our September “Students of the Month”: Jennifer Sandoval, 6th grade Josh Ellis, 7th grade Danielle Shinaver, 8th grade
We are proud of your accomplishments to this point and look forward to continued success! |

The annual magazine sale is up and running for the 2010—2011 school year. Students who turned in postcards received a duck and students who have sold 3 subscriptions or more will receive a duck and a chance for a cash prize. The duck hunter has made his way through the halls and continues to reward students displaying their ducks.
It has been a fun sale so far and we are hoping for good results. The first turn-in date was September 7th and the second turn-in date will be Monday, September 13th. Please support the PTO and Fassett by participating. Thank you! |

New Year Brings New Changes in Building |
|
This summer brought many much needed up-dates to Fassett Middle School that have most definitely enhanced the atmosphere and will be a source of pride for those who call Fassett home. One only needs to turn off Starr into the East driveway to notice a change that has much improved traffic at Fassett. The driveway has been widened with another lane. This allows for smoother bus turns and allows cars and buses to pass safely. The driveway and parking lot have also been repaved. In addition, a new curb lines the sidewalk in front of the parking lot. This curb replaces one that was in disrepair to the point that chunks could be lifted from it.
