School begins next week and I can't be more excited about what is happening at OCS.   Teachers return on Tuesday and students on Thursday.  OCS is in the mindset of growth and trasformation to meet the needs of our students for the new world we are all experiencing every day.   We have worked very hard to increase comfort with air conditioning in the classroom for the past several years.  We have now placed AC in the Fassett Auditorium and Clay Potter Gym.  Both are already providing huge impacts for our students and community.  The next step in our facility transformation is classroom learning space desgin.
Classroom learning spaces have been evolving for years.   We will begin taking a very strategic look at classroom  designs of future to better meet our instructional and student needs.  Todays students have access to information in the palm of their hand, but lack the "soft" skills necessary to problem solve, investigate, and communicate ideas to solve current real world problems.  Classrooms of tomorrow will be designed to meet these needs.  You will see tables and cooperative learning centers, integrated technology, and more personalize learning areas for exploration and design.  This will take some time and funding but must be a part of our strategic focus.
OCS is working to provide increase services and information to our Alumni.  Reconnecting our graduates is an important part of successful school districts.  Clay HS now has a dedicated room for Alumni relations.  This room will be a central point to connect, hold meetings, and coordinate services for Clay alumni moving forward.  Through the work of our Development Director,  CHAFA, and secretarial support, our goal is to provide as much support and information to our alumni as possible.
As we enter into the 18-19 school year, it is my sincere hope all students and staff have a great year with positive memories and experience throughout.
