Budget Belt-tightening continues… |

Money is tight these days. I don’t need to remind you of that fact. Like you, the Oregon City School District is feeling the effects of an economy that appears to be uncertain for the foreseeable future. When resources are scarce – tough choices have to be made. Today, by reducing our costs and tightening our belts, we are a leaner more efficient organization.
The district has reduced operating costs to a level significantly below FY2006 expenditures (see chart). This is never an easy thing to do. The challenge is to achieve the delicate balance between operational efficiency and high standards for educational programming. By working together we have done this and are beginning to work towards long term fiscal stability.

The H1N1 flu virus continues to have a presence in our school community and region in general. The district has several students with the virus in various buildings throughout the district. Therefore, the Oregon City School District will be hosting H1N1 vaccination clinics beginning Monday October 26, 2009. The clinics will be staffed by professional health care providers from the Toledo Lucas County Health Department. Specific details listing the protocols and procedures we will be following were sent out in a letter to parents last week. Also, the scheduled vaccination dates for each building are posted on the website. Please be aware that only students who have returned a signed copy of the “parental consent form” will be eligible to receive the vaccination. We hope this process will have a minimal impact on the educational process while providing a valuable service to the community.
