October 19, 2009 The H1N1 flu virus continues to have a presence in our school community and region in general. The district has several students with the virus in various buildings throughout the district. Therefore, the Oregon City School District will be hosting H1N1 vaccination clinics beginning Monday October 26, 2009. The clinics will be staffed by professional health care providers from the Toledo Lucas County Health Department. Specific details listing the protocols and procedures we will be following were sent out in a letter to parents last week. Also, the scheduled vaccination dates for each building are posted on the website. Please be aware that only students who have returned a signed copy of the “parental consent form” will be eligible to receive the vaccination. We hope this process will have a minimal impact on the educational process while providing a valuable service to the community. The district continues to monitor the attendance of staff and students. At the present time, our attendance patterns continue to be within the normal ranges of attendance for this time of year. We will continue to watch for patterns of irregularity. If anything changes, parents will be notified. In addition, our custodial staff will continue using enhanced cleaning procedures in addition to their normal cleaning of classrooms and school facilities. As always, we encourage everyone to practice good hygiene principles such as regular hand washing and covering coughs or sneezes with your sleeve. Hopefully, the flu season will be behind us soon and we can look forward to a healthy rest of the school year.
