The Technology Department provides hardware, software, training, repairs and maintenance for all network, computer and phone systems.  Our department continually strives to meet the ever increasing demands of education in the 21st century.  We manage a robust Windows network offering the following to our staff and students:

  • 1435 Computers (Servers, PC’s and Mac’s)
  • 257 Projectors
  • 146 Document Cameras
  • 80 SmartBoards
  • 32 Wireless Hot Spots
  • More than 200 different software applications
  • Personal network storage for all users
  • Numerous building operation systems (cafeteria, library, phones, security, student information, …)

Over the course of the 2009-2010 school year, the technology department has worked diligently to improve operational efficiency and increase learning opportunities.  The following is a partial list of projects:

  • Programmed lights at Clay High School to reduce electrical consumption by 15%
  • Implemented online lunch account system providing parents with the option of managing student lunch accounts
  • Integrated staff directory information with Exchange Server, providing a centralized searchable directory online
  • Programmed new Xerox copiers so staff could scan and e-mail documents
  • Continued drive to improve communications through district website
  • Replaced traditional school newsletters with e-newsletters, reducing printing and distribution costs
  • Developed a new 3-year Technology Plan with the Technology Steering Committee
  • Standardized electronic door locks and alarm systems at all buildings
  • Finished implementation of 32 wireless access points
  • Implemented 140 ELMO document cameras in classrooms throughout the district
  • Finished implementation of AV cabling in all district classrooms
  • Currently cconducting a pilot program for providing parents online grades with district staff members having students in Oregon City Schools

To capitalize on the fiber network installed during the summer of 2009, we are in the process of centralizing our network operations.  Server are being replaced/consolidated from 45 district-wide down to 10 centralized servers.  During this process we will be updating to Windows Server 2008 and virtualizing our server operations.  This will increase educational opportunities and the efficiency of our operations while also cutting long-term network costs.
