SchoolMessenger Preferences Change – IMPACTS ALL PARENTS

With a recent change to our PowerSchool environment, mass communication preferences for SchoolMessenger have changed.  Most parents established preferences years ago.  Default preferences have been updated to include only Mothers, Fathers or Court-appointed Guardians who have Custody and/or Live With their student.  The default preferences are to e-mail/call/text only the highest priority e-mail address/phone number provided during registration this summer. Additional e-mail addresses/phone numbers will only be contacted in the event of an Emergency broadcast or if you update your preferences to opt into additional contact points.

This means you will receive an e-mail, phone call and text message (if opted into SMS) when your student is absent.  Additionally, you will automatically receive mass school e-mails at your primary e-mail address only.  If you wish to update the new default preferences, you can do so through SchoolMessenger.  In the past, any parent could login to their PowerSchool Parent Portal and update preferences for both parents.  With the update, you can only update your own settings.  Each Mother, Father or Guardian needs to login separately to update their preferences.

There are two ways to update your contact preferences:

1.     Login via PowerSchool Parent Portal and click on SchoolMessenger link to update YOUR preferences.  Directions can be found in the following attachment: Manage Contact Preferences
2.     Download the SchoolMessenger App and update preferences.  This will be ideal for parents who don’t have a PowerSchool Parent Portal established and don’t want to create one.  Watch a short video to preview necessary steps for setting up the app using an e-mail address previously provided to the school during registration.

For parents who do not have a PS Parent Portal and prefer to establish one instead of using the SchoolMessenger App, please contact Linda Toth at 419-693-0661 x3273.
